The Safety of Dental X-Rays

March 2nd, 2017

As experienced kids' dentists of Tucson, we see lots of kids and lots of smiles.  We pride ourselves on preventative dental care.   We believe in the proven practices of tooth brushing and flossing so that your child will not experience cavities and other dental problems.

Part of preventative dental care means x-rays.  Understandably, when x-rays are involved, parents have lots of questions.  How much is enough?  How safe are x-rays?  Are they worth the risk of exposure?

At Northwest Children's Dentistry, we tailor x-rays to each child's individual risk assessment.  We use digital radiography and shielding. This state-of-the-art technology minimizes your child’s exposure to radiation. We also only take x-rays of your child periodically, so we can evaluate problems that lurk in your child's teeth that we can't see on the surface.  This allows us to balance good dental health and low x-ray exposure.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to take care of all your children's dental needs.  If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.

Evaluating Your Child for Braces

February 2nd, 2017

When parents think of children and their teeth, they often think of braces.  They have a lot of questions such as are they needed, when are they needed, and how long will they need them for.

Here at Northwest Children's Dentistry, we specialize in pediatric dentistry, meaning we will be the first doctors you will ask these questions too.  We will evaluate your child to see if braces are needed.  Generally, braces are needed between 10-13 years of age.  If we feel your child will need braces, we will help get you to an orthodontist, doctors who specialize in braces and other improper bite issues.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to take care of all your children's dental needs.  If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.

Teenagers and Dental Health

January 19th, 2017

When people see the term "pediatric dentist" they often think it is a dentist for little children, and that is correct.  Pediatric dentists, like Dr. Bunch and Dr. Marshall at Northwest Children's Dentistry, though, are trained to see patients ranging from birth to 17 years in age.  Even teenagers have needs that differ from adults, and a pediatric dentist knows how to best evaluate your growing teen's teeth.

Why is it important that a teenager keep seeing the dentist?  Besides the obvious issues of cavities and gingivitis, teenagers are still losing teeth.  Sometimes during these years we can recommend a child get braces, which will help align teeth into adulthood.  Maintaining a healthy dental habits now will aid your child in keeping their teeth well into adulthood and even when they become senior citizens.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to take care of all your children's dental needs.  If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.
