"Made in the Shades" Sunglasses Contest

September 21st, 2017

At Northwest Children's Dentistry, we try to make our office a fun place for kids to visit.  We decided recently to give away sunglasses to all of our patients during their appointment, and with that giveaway, offer kids a chance to win more.

Welcome to our "Made in the Shades" contest! If you post pictures of your kids wearing their Northwest Children's Dentistry sunglasses to our Facebook wall, you will be entered into a random drawing to win a prize. One winner will be selected each month to win. It's soooo sunny here in Tucson, you can enter a picture with your cuties in sunglasses every month while the contest lasts.

Stay tuned for September's prize!

What is a Sealant?

September 7th, 2017

We receive a lot of questions about the procedures we perform on our patients.  One thing we might recommend for your child is a sealant.

A dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating that bonds a tooth's surface.  Your child's permanent molars may have deep pits and grooves that make them impossible to brush properly, which can lead to harmful bacteria forming on the tooth.  When this happens, we recommend filling those areas with a sealant to keep food and bacteria out of your child's teeth.  This reduces the risk of dental decay by up to 50%.

Preparing Your Child's Teeth for Fall Sports

August 17th, 2017

It's back to school time, and with it, a host of after school activities.  Your child may be enrolled in a sports program.  Here are some tips for protecting your child's teeth as they become active this fall:

  • If the sport is high impact, you may want to consider a custom mouth guard for your child.  Custom mouth guards protect your child's teeth in case of injury and are more comfortable to wear than store bought ones.
  • Know what to do in case of a dental emergency.  Our kids dentist website has a list of what to do in case of dental emergencies.
  • Have your pediatric dentist's number on your phone.  Northwest Children's Dentistry's phone number is (520) 544-8522 if you have any questions or concerns, no matter what time of day.

Dealing with Dental Emergencies

August 3rd, 2017

Kids lead active lives and can find themselves in all kinds of predicaments.  As a parent, you know to be prepared in case an emergency arises.  If your child has a dental emergency, here are the following steps you can take:

1. In a life threatening situation, call 9-1-1.  Never hesitate if you feel your child's life is in danger.

2. In a non-life threatening situation, you may be able to perform on-the-spot care.  You can find a list of what we recommend on this Dental Emergencies page.

3. Call your dentist.  In severe cases, we may be able to help save a tooth.  Northwest Children's Dentistry's phone number is (520) 544-8522.
