Northwest Children's Dentistry Collecting for Marana Food Bank

November 5th, 2018

November 1st is the unofficial start of the holiday season.  The staff and pediatric dentists at Northwest Children's Dentistry would like to get into the spirit of the season with food donations for those in need and you can help!

Between now and November 16, 2018, please bring non-perishable food items to our office at 7610 N La Cholla Blvd, Tucson any weekday between 8 am and 5 pm.  Everything we collect goes to Marana Food Bank, who serve 65,000 meals daily and serve over 190,000 people in our community every year.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we hope to work together with you to solve local hunger.  If you have any questions for our office, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.

Follow a Regular Dental Routine

October 25th, 2018

Life can get busy, and sometimes the simple stuff falls to the wayside.  No matter what's on your schedule, we hope you remember to set up a regular dental routine for your child.  Here's what we recommend:

  • Brush twice a day.  Getting in at least two brushes helps reduce your child's risk of cavities.  Try once in the morning and right before bed, the same times your child is getting dressed, to make this easy to remember.
  • Floss once a day.  Flossing gets in between teeth where the brush can't pick.  The easiest time to floss is easier in the morning or night while brushing.
  • Limit sugary drinks.  Kids should drink no more than 4 to 6 oz. of juice a day.  You can make this rule easy by only allowing your child one juice at a specific time, such as during a particular meal.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to take care of all your children's dental needs.  If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.

Have a cavity-free Halloween!

October 11th, 2018

It's that time of year again: pumpkins, costumes, and candy.  Halloween!  We want our patients and their families to enjoy the holiday, so we've provided some tips on how to have a cavity-free Halloween.

  • Don't eat all your Halloween candy at once.  Some kids bring home bags of sugary goodies after a night of trick or treating.  Instead of letting them consume it quickly over a day or two, spread their consumption over the month of November, maybe two of three pieces at most per day.
  • Keep up your normal dental routine.  Families get busy over the holidays, but don't get too busy that you forget to brush twice a day and floss once.  You can do an extra brushing if your kids eat a lot of sugars at a Halloween party.
  • Hand out non-candy treats.  Kids love non-candy based trick or treat items such as stickers, play-doh, or dollar store items.  See if you can limit how much candy gets passed around your neighborhood.

Why Get Sealants?

September 25th, 2018

At Northwest Children's Dentistry, we believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  We want to stop dental problems before they start, which is why we might recommend your child get sealants.

A dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating secured to the chewing surface of the tooth.  Many permanent molars erupt with deep pits and grooves. The sealant fills these areas to create a barrier to keep food and bacteria out.  This simple procedure can reduce the risk of tooth decay by up to 50%.
