Here at Northwest Children's Dentistry, we are firm believers that prevention is an important element in your child’s oral health success. We discuss your child’s nutrition at every appointment because as they grow, what they eat and drink are likely to change.
We often ask about:
- Their current foods, drinks, and snacks
- The frequency each is consumed
From there, we can provide you with individualized tips that will help you maintain your child's good dental health. We understand that all children are unique and may have differing oral health needs. Being able to understand how your child’s teeth and gums are impacted by nutrition reduces their risk for cavities and decay. It also helps you avoid more costly, complicated dental treatments in the future.
As your pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to help you understand all aspects of your child's dental care. Feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.

When you think of brushing your child's teeth, you may only be thinking of those pearly whites. While it is important to brush your child's teeth at least two times a day, it's also important to brush your child's tongue.
What's so important about brushing your tongue? Just like your teeth, your tongue can hold bacteria in its bumps and ridges. Bacteria on your tongue can lead to bad breath. So brushing your child's tongue helps keep these nasty agents from affecting the teeth, leading to overall better oral health.
As your pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to help you understand all aspects of your child's dental care. Feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.

When you think of dental fillings, you may conjure up an image silver or gold metal over your pearly whites. In our day and age, however, many types of filling materials are available. Metal free fillings have become popular because of their ability to restore a tooth while blending naturally with the rest of your child’s smile. Composed of tooth-colored composite resin material, metal free fillings can be used to repair cavity-ridden, chipped, broken or cracked teeth.
At Northwest Children's Dentistry, we decide whether metal amalgam or metal free fillings should be used for your child based on aesthetics and the location of the filling. For example, teeth that show up in photographs, such as front teeth, are often better suited for metal free fillings. Our office always aims to use the most modern standards of dentistry in terms of conservation, longevity, and restoration when considering the health of each tooth needing repair.

Every holiday season, we here at Northwest Children's Dentistry like to offer advice on how to get your child's teeth through the holidays. Holidays generally bring more sugar into our kids' lives, and that's especially true at Halloween.
We know lots of kids make a pretty good candy haul for Halloween. To keep your child's teeth healthy during this time, remember to brush twice a day and floss daily. We also recommend not having your child eat their entire Halloween candy stash at once. This will not only prevent tummy aches, but can reduce the risk of cavities. Instead, have your child eat only one or two pieces of candy from their stash per day until it is gone.
For the truly inspired, you can also reduce the neighborhood's sugar intake by handing out other treats on Halloween, such as stickers.
As your pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to help you understand all aspects of your child's dental care. Feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.
